25th of April commemorates James Watson, Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkin’s discovery of DNA’s double helix back in 1953 and the publication of their work in Nature journal. This month also coincides with another big milestone in the history of biology, the completion of the 13-year-long Human Genome Project in 2003. The revolutionary discovery of the structure of DNA changed our understanding of life and spurred modern biology whereas the successful completion of the Human Genome Project deciphered the complete genetic blueprint of the 20,500 genes that make up a human.
To acknowledge this momentous and remarkable day of the year, the Community of Biotechnology presents one of the most exhilarating events for biotech and biosciences enthusiasts, the “DNA Fest 2021,” which will take place on 24th and 25th April and aims to bring people from all over the world to participate in various exciting competitions on DNA along with providing them with the opportunity to hear from the very foundation builders of Biosciences and Molecular Biology about their work and research that has led to the existing advancements in the field of life sciences. The DNA Fest will be chaired by Dr. Ada Yonath, who received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for her studies on the structure and function of the ribosome along with two other scientists in 2009. Her session will take place on 25th April which will be followed by a winner announcement ceremony where Dr. Ada Yonath herself will announce the names of the winners of the competitions. The sessions will be conducted on the Zoom platform where only registered members will get an entrance and opportunity to interact with the prestigious speakers. Moreover, they will further be broadcasted live on Facebook and other social networking sites for allowing the general masses to enjoy the sessions as viewers as well.
